What's the difference between Alliance and Horde in PvP/Battlegrounds?

I should ask this of Gnomey or Cynwise, but there seem to be a few differences between Horde and Alliance in a battleground.  I mean, it's like a cultural difference, a habit perhaps.  For example:
  • Why do Alliance always cap Snowfall Graveyard in AV?
As Horde I never touch it.  And I think people get yelled at for touching it if you're Horde, so it's pretty ingrained into players NOT TO CAP SNOWFALL.  But why do Alliance always cap it?  It is in the middle of nowhere.  I sure as hell don't want to be rezzing there because it's far from O and far from D.  So what is the advantage of capping Snowfall, for Alliance?
  • Why do Alliance always rush Lumber Mill instead of Gold Mine in AB?
Personally I don't go Lumber Mill because I'm scared of being blown off.  It's ok for Mages and Priests or Paladins I suppose.  But that's just why I go to Gold mine.
  • Why does Horde very rarely go and get Docks in IoC?
I'm scared of Glaives!  They hurt!  I don't know why people don't go and cap Docks more so we can have Glaives?  Why do only stealthies go to Docks?
  • Why is Alliance so much better at Graveyard camping that Horde?
The number of times I've been boxed in/camped in WSG is WAY more than the number of times I've seen it happen to them.   We should do it more!  Though in Gilneas I've seen Horde do more graveyard camping than Alliance.  Reading Cyn's post on GY camping made me wonder about it.

Wondering about this makes me plotz.  It does my head in!  I google it and I can't find the answers.  Somebody please explain!!

  1. 1. Because they're Idiots.

    2. I go LM because it's got a great view of most of the map and I can throw people off it. Half my team follow me because I'm a healer and they're sensible :D

    3. Because strategies get ingrained and people are scared of doing something different.

    4. Varies on the team but we Gnomes are used to sitting patiently in a garden like setting so graveyard camping comes naturally to us :p

    1. LOL @ the gnomes sitting patiently in a garden like setting! :D

  2. When I do BGs, I cap stuff because I'm following the herd, and they all went to do that, so I guess I should too, huh?

I wonder how much damage the lemming effect would have with one very confident-appearing idiuot leading us all boldly to our doom right off the edge of the cliff.

If he did a little mounted jump right at the edge, I bet the rest of us would too.

    2. We have our very own lemming right here *points at the slowly falling cheetah who jumped off at LM. That should be your new code. Code Navi: Everyone float from LM to BS and land in the water :P

    3. Oh god. Did you have to mention that... that was embarrassing...

  3. Navi, I am going to tell you a fact I know--there is really no difference between Horde and Alliance. Both camp, both nerd rage, and the data on wins and losses is equal. It depends on time of day, etc., and it always feels like the "other side does it more" but unfortunately, that is not the case. It would actually be more interesting if it were in some ways. What Cynwise, Erinys, and Bear all say is true too, but lemmings are on both sides. I promise. I try not to say this often, but trust me, I have this on good authority.

    1. I believe you Matty. It's just an observation I noticed being a simple Horde player.

  4. I cap Snowfall Graveyard in AV because there is an achievement for capping graveyards.

  5. Why do Alliance always cap Snowfall Graveyard in AV?
Goes back to vanilla AV, horde would cap Snowfall so that Alliance couldn't run through the middle. Thus resulting in a turtle.

Why do Alliance always rush Lumber Mill instead of Gold Mine in AB?
Strategic position, LM is better than GM because you can see the entire map. Horde ignore this fact because we can, most of the time, ignore LM cap all the way to stables and reinforce Farm before they steamroll out of LM.

Why does Horde very rarely go and get Docks in IoC?
Very simple, Docks is closer to the Alliance starting point and Hanger is closer to Horde starting area.

Why is Alliance so much better at Graveyard camping that Horde?
This is untrue, it just seems that way. =p I'm most certain that everyone feels that their group falls short in some aspects. But most of the time winning ratios are quite even.

    2. Hrm, technically plotz is Yiddish meaning 'to burst', usually used in the context of aggravation (i.e. to "completely lose it").

Not sure what Ancient is referring to in this context though, unless she's implying three people including you were doing something very irritating. :p

    3. Oooh, she's referring to the repeated use of plotz by separate bloggers ... in joke mebbe ... <.<

  7. First time posting here.

    1) No idea. I just know that as horde if you even go near the flag, half the team will stop whatever its doing to hurl obscenities at you. Please do not ask me how I know this. :)

    2) Unless a huge horde group goes LM, the 10 Alliance there will destroy the horde party and roll on down to farm. Since GM is typically less contested horde prefers to branch to farm and stables with 4 - 5 going GM. The teams from GM and BS can then reinforce farm when the alliance zerg comes there from LM. If I am on my rogue, I'll go LM but wait in the shadows. If they leave only one or two defenders behind, I try to make with the stabby stabby and recap.

    3) The docks flag is closer to the alliance base. Whenever I try to mount up and ride to the docks, I find alliance there ahead of me. At the hangar, they seem to get there at the same time as us or slightly later. This makes more than half of alliance prefer to go docks which is enough to wipe out anything except stealthies on glaive intercept duty.

    4) No idea about that. If the horde has the upper hand in WSG it typically results in super fast flag caps. Horde doesn't seem to want to GY camp, prefering FC escort instead. Just my own biased view though!

    1. Thunderspank thank you for visiting my humble blog! It's an honour!
      1) LOL! Firsthand experience perhaps? :P
      2) It usually does feel like that...
      3) I should have realised the proximity thing. Aza said the same thing.
      4) I agree, I don't see much GY camping just quick capping if we have upper hand. But Cynwise has made me see the wisdom of GY blockade so we might try that next time.

  8. Hi Navi,

    1) As someone who has never played beyond level 20 as Alliance, I can only say that capping Snowfall as Horde means more resistance at SHB and IWB since the respawns don't go past there, and since the Alliance are actually what evolve into the Zerg, that is a good thing for horde. As long as you have a good back-capping team.....

I always try to cap Snowfall once we have them on the defensive though, just to provoke the obscenities :P

    2) As moonkin I went to LM first simply to punt Ally off the cliff. But I have levelled my rogue through BGs for many levels now, and I gotta say riding up to LM, stealthing just before cresting the top, and ambushing the lone guy guarding the flag after the rest of the pack heads to farm, is very very satisfying. Nine times out of ten the Alliance love their LM so much that they devote a large part of their team to taking it back and keeping it, which frees up the rest of my team to take other flags.

    3) Thunderspank said it best: glaive intercept duty.

    4) Obviously it is because GY camping is tantamount to terrorism and Horde would never stoop to such despicable and dishonourable acts! :P
