IntPiPoMo 2012 #50 - The Finish Line

November is the month of NaNoWriMo. If a picture is worth a thousand words, and the NaNoWriMo target is fifty thousand words, then Angelya of Revive and Rejuvenate has said, surely we can post fifty pictures and be winners as well - IntPiPoMo!  This is part of my contribution to the series.

Here we are at the finish!  Somehow I managed to complete my 50 screenshots for November.  Head back and check out all the participants at Revive and Rejuvenate for some gorgeous Warcraft eye candy screenies :)

IntPiPoMo 2012 #49 - Lucky I've got a strong back

November is the month of NaNoWriMo. If a picture is worth a thousand words, and the NaNoWriMo target is fifty thousand words, then Angelya of Revive and Rejuvenate has said, surely we can post fifty pictures and be winners as well - IntPiPoMo!  This is part of my contribution to the series.

This big guy accompanies you for a bit in the Forsaken starting zone.  In this quest he picks up all the live ones and then follows you around.  It was pretty hard trying to keep ahead of him so I could get a picture of his people stack.

Finally stepping into 3s arena

I was slightly disappointed yesterday.  I thought I wasn't going to be able to make raid, because I had a really late finish at work, but by some miracle I was home just in time to have hubby take the kids to bed which meant I could get straight onto the computer.  I was happy.

However, I wanted to update my mods like DBM and Skada, so I flew over to Mogu'shan Vaults, logged out (only told Lushnek though) and went to download mods.  Then I noticed that I was capped.  Well shit.

So I had to go buy a data block and then I got my mods installed and then I logged back in.  7 minutes too slow.  Raid was formed and they had gone without me.

So I logged into yelling from Sevros and Lushnek who were in raid and cranky that I had somehow abandoned them.  The twinge of disappointment was rapidly being washed away by thinking about getting some pets.  I went to do the final quest for Golden Lotus (which is getting a whole post on it) and then Shab got on so I went to PvP.

Shab nagged gently reminded me that I could upgrade my honour gear now so I went and did 2 items.  I was a few points shy of buying a conquest chest, so we went into some BGs.  First up was AV.  It was horrible.  It was full of turds, who were just being childish and not trying - surprising, I thought since it was full of people from PvP realms like Frostmourne, Jubei'thos and Mal'Ganissaid  that it would be a little more... PvP like.

Anyway, I asked Shab if we could do the double honour BG, which turned out to be Eye of the Storm.  The game was 2 all for a lot of it, and Alliance had captured one flag and I had managed to take it and hold it at Fel Reaver for a little bit.   Then Alliance came and I had to panic cap and then we had a bit of control for a while of the middle.  Alliance rallied halfway through and managed to assault and gain a 3rd base, but Horde ran and managed to grab another base.  As we neared the last 3 minutes, Shab and I noticed that Blood Elf Tower looked empty and he snuck over there and managed to solo cap it and that was a satisfying win.

After that we went into Twin Peaks, and there was a High Warlord feral druid who was amazing.  They must have come in as a partial group I think because he seemed to know what was going on in the BG on the offensive.  Alliance was quite good too, with a deadly warrior and a rogue + mage who were annoying the crap out of me.  The impressive points was the druid and me in the flag room waiting to cap, and 6 or 7 alliance came charging in (though maybe some were pets, all I saw was a whole heap of red names).  Shab was somewhere in the building but not in the immediate vicinity.  The cap had not returned but I was quickly overwhelmed and the druid managed to stay alive for a few more seconds and capped.  The second cap happened relatively smoothly and the reason I thought it was a team of friends was because the druid ran out of the room, and then ran back in just as the flag was returned.  Though he could have been just watching the EFC's health as well.  Before you knew it, the game was over, and I went to buy my new chest.

Shab was keen to try some arenas, so Sev invited him to our 2s team and Shab and I went to try it out a bit.  We lost one then won one.  Sev finished raiding (and netted an Elegon kill AND an achievement) so we decided to do some 3s.  We lost a fair few and won a couple so it was what we expected.  Shab asked me if I was feeling a bit tougher in BGs because he's found druids hard to kill.  I think when I'm silenced, stunned/feared and have my armour penetrated I'm not feeling particularly tough, even with my Barkskin.  What I do need more practice on is using my symbiosis.  I've been putting it on Shab so that I can have iceblock.  So far I haven't noticed any other druids in PvP using symbiosis  much, so I guess only time will tell.

Oh how I've missed PvP and arena.  Maybe this one team thing isn't so bad after all.  If only Sev and Shab were sat out at the same time as me.

IntPiPoMo 2012 #48 - Gimme

November is the month of NaNoWriMo. If a picture is worth a thousand words, and the NaNoWriMo target is fifty thousand words, then Angelya of Revive and Rejuvenate has said, surely we can post fifty pictures and be winners as well - IntPiPoMo!  This is part of my contribution to the series.

Now THAT is one awesome looking Cloud Serpent.  This is in Townlong Steppes on one of the the islands where you do Shado-Pan dailies (where you ride a Cloud serpent and beat it until it regains its senses)

IntPiPoMo 2012 #47 - Goblin accommodations

November is the month of NaNoWriMo. If a picture is worth a thousand words, and the NaNoWriMo target is fifty thousand words, then Angelya of Revive and Rejuvenate has said, surely we can post fifty pictures and be winners as well - IntPiPoMo!  This is part of my contribution to the series.

For a contested zone, it's got some pretty nice accommodations!  This is in the horde side starting area of Silvershard mines.  I could almost snuggle in there and forget there is a war raging just downstairs with those filthy Alliance...

Wednesday raid - Merging the raid groups

Starting today Fue said we were having one raid group.  I didn't think I could make it as I was going to be getting on at 9pm.  However, as I logged in, Roshii had to log and I somehow got into the raid.  That was nice for me but a bummer for Roshii.

There were 3 from our group and 7 from their group.  Balinar managed to get up so he was in, and Lushnek was there too.  Fue and Raked were tanking and Bish and Voe were healing.  I wasn't sure if I was needed TBH, but I was happy to go for Feng because I wanted my hat.  No luck there though.

It was interesting seeing how people do things differently.  Bal and I asked at the same time which side do they put the fires on for Feng.  They do the right side.  OK, well that's interesting, since we do left.  But it's not hard to adapt.  But as I listened to them Raked and Fue would make little mistakes with casting the copied abilities, which wasn't unlike our own raid.  Or maybe they were having an off day.  I guess I always looked at the 830 group as perfect execution.  They use bloodlust at the last part of phase 2 for healing, which I was a bit surprised.  But it didn't bother me, it was fine.

Then we did Garajal and introduced them to our mod that we use.  Bish went DPS and we asked how did they normally do it, and Fue said Voe usually yells it out.  Kinda like what we used to do, but at least this way it was easier - just read the names off.  Went pretty smoothly IMO, and didn't even have to get Lush or Bish to use tranquility.  Shamans are just OP heals I think :)  Health seemed really good and stable.

Then we got to Spirit Kings.  Now, Fue really showed his colours there.  His version of running in a straight line was about 15 degrees off.  So when we ran Qiang for his annihilate all of us were bunched up except for Fue who was standing on his own.  And he told us to stack on him, but by then it was too late because he died in the massive attack.  And then the next time we wiped, flanking orders was coming so Fue runs right and then suddenly turns and runs left after we all followed him right!   So of course he dies to the next massive attack.  I just had to laugh and I said I was never going to pick on Tout again!  Tout jumped in for that boss to see if he could get the shield, but no luck.  However, true to form, 2 leather agility items dropped in those 3 bosses I turned up for, and Raked was happy he got one.  I already had them both.  See, I told you I bring the agi leather to the raid.

Then I got to see Elegon for the first time in normal mode.  They did a good job explaining it but I still felt like I was running around like a headless chook, and running in and out of the lightning thing was a bit messy for me and I wasn't watching where Voe was for healing the tank, so I wasn't executing it well.  However, after 2 goes I did get the hang of it a bit, and if I do it again I'll be better.

Now the question is - will I be able to come tonight?  I can't get on at 830, so I wonder what's going to happen.  Maybe I'll be sitting out for Bladewind.

Anyway, I did LFR Terrace of Endless Spring and walked out with 2 upgrades - Tier helm and some boots. So I was pretty happy with that.  Now I've got the achievement Mystically Epic, thanks to offspec staff.

IntPiPoMo 2012 #46 - War

November is the month of NaNoWriMo. If a picture is worth a thousand words, and the NaNoWriMo target is fifty thousand words, then Angelya of Revive and Rejuvenate has said, surely we can post fifty pictures and be winners as well - IntPiPoMo!  This is part of my contribution to the series.

The sad tale of our hatred mars the beautiful coastline of Pandaria.  Now where are all the Alliance ships, I wonder!

How to give someone your Rare Pet and my New 5.1 pets

All I was interested in was the pet battle changes and all the new pets! I was raiding last night but if I wasn't, I know I would have been out there trying to catch them all!  And the 12 you can get from dungeons - you can sell them!

This pet drops from Gluth in Naxxramas.

This is from Northern Barrens in the harpy area to the north west.

Caught down near the lakes in Vale of Eternal Blossoms.

Drops from Loatheb in Naxxramas.
Souglyy said to me yesterday "Do you want a rare Nordrassil Wisp?" and I said yes!  But how do you do that?  So she taught this to me -if you stand next to them as they are battling and they Alt-F4, then the Battle pet reappears with the same stats where they battled them and you can battle it!  And if you accidentally killed it, you can do the same thing (Alt-F4) and when you log back in it will be there (as long as you didn't kill the others).  Handy tip to know!

Edit: Forfeiting makes them despawn.  Damn, so that doesn't work.

IntPiPoMo 2012 #44 and #45 - Ruined bug shots

November is the month of NaNoWriMo. If a picture is worth a thousand words, and the NaNoWriMo target is fifty thousand words, then Angelya of Revive and Rejuvenate has said, surely we can post fifty pictures and be winners as well - IntPiPoMo!  This is part of my contribution to the series.

Sigh.  Even your friends can't help themselves sometimes when you're trying to take a picture.  Sev's hand needs to be taken AWAY from his spacebar.  And just as I managed to get a picture composed someone puts down a death and decay and when I move forward, the tank runs in to pull.

IntPiPoMo #40 to #43 - Kites

November is the month of NaNoWriMo. If a picture is worth a thousand words, and the NaNoWriMo target is fifty thousand words, then Angelya of Revive and Rejuvenate has said, surely we can post fifty pictures and be winners as well - IntPiPoMo!  This is part of my contribution to the series.

I love kites.  All these new kites from Pandaria are cool - if I can have a dragon kite and a Tuskarr kite, why can't I have one of these too?
Edit: Shawndra has just pointed out ot me that I have them already /facepalm (silly Navi!)

Rare hunters Map - Jade Forest

There are so many rares out there, that I really need a map to find out where they all spawn!  It's all very nice that people write posts about getting the rare items with pictures so I can see what it looks like so I know what I'm looking for, but it doesn't help me much if I don't know where it is!

Going back and forth through various Wowhead items, and flicking to my friend Euphyley's maps was just getting too hard for me, so I decided to make a map of Jade Forest where EVERY rare spawn that counts towards an achievement is.

Thanks to Euphyley for letting me use her Jade Forest Map and letting me scribble on it!  And thank you to Kanegasi for that awesome comment in Wowhead so I can find everything!  And thanks Cymre for having pics so I can see what each item looks like.

So now, armed with my map, I can do a circuit of Jade Forest looking for all these rares so I can hopefully get them.  Click on it to get the full sized map.

It gets a bit confusing with all the rainbow colours, so I marked all the Lost and Found items in brown with a number next to them.

So much to my excitement, I found my first one yesterday!  It was the Ancient Jinyu Staff, which really was one of two I had been looking for because I could remember where it was, and I was thrilled to see something shining in the water.  It's easiest to look for it when you're swimming in the water (though you can see it when you're flying about it too) but just in case your graphics aren't good, go for swimming in the water in that length of stream that I marked on the map next to (1).  At least it sparkles!  That helps a lot.

The Ancient Pandaren Mining Pick (2) is found INSIDE the mine.  The Hammer of Ten Thunders is usually found lying against a wall in those areas I've marked with a (3).  The Jade Warrior Statue (4) and Wodin's Mantid Shanker (5) are single spot spawns so they can be a bit hard to see on my map.  Wodin's Mantid Shaker spawns in Owen's wishing well.

I hope you find this map for making your rares circuit trail useful!  I will make more in the future so I can hopefully get pictures of all these rares!

IntPiPoMo 2012 #39 - Death #1

November is the month of NaNoWriMo. If a picture is worth a thousand words, and the NaNoWriMo target is fifty thousand words, then Angelya of Revive and Rejuvenate has said, surely we can post fifty pictures and be winners as well - IntPiPoMo!  This is part of my contribution to the series.

Sometimes, things look prettier when you're dead.  Raining even adds to the beautiful gloominess of it all.

Minipost: Frustrating things about Pet Battles

If the first thing you reply upon reading this title is "Doing Pet Battles is annoying and boring" then this post is not for you.

I was making yet another mistake when pet battling that I thought it would be rather funny to write my list of frustrating things down, because I am sure most pet battlers of my calibre can relate to them!
  • Swooping down in a hurry to battle that rare pet before anyone else gets it only to find:
    • The pet is level 1 and you forgot you've got all your level 25s in your team
    • The pet is level 20 and you forgot you've got your level 2-6 team which you were using to catch that low level pet
    • You forgot to revive after that last battle and you only have one pet alive and it has 20% health
    • Your pet which never crits decides to crit and kill the thing you're trying to capture
  • You go to battle a Master tamer for the daily and the bag and
    • You've forgotten to change the spells of your pets to the optimum ones
    • You've forgotten to take out the right pets for this master
    • You swear, the computer selects their pet AFTER it knows what you're going to put out
  • Oh come on, 5 misses with a strong trap?  You have got to be kidding me...
  • You are trying to level your lowbie pet by getting it carried with high level pets (battling high level pets) and you forgot to bring it out before you killed the last one and therefore got no experience for any of your pets.
  • Missing 3 times in a row when you thought you were going to win and you get slaughtered
  • Getting all your pets killed while trying to get that rare pet
  • Having 2 or 3 rares in the group you are battling, and trying to figure out which one to catch when you don't have any of them rare
  • Finally finding a rare pet to capture and then realising you forgot to release the other 3 you had caught so you can't catch it
  • Realising there must not be any skill to pet battling at all when you watch your 4 year old daughter randomly press 1 to 4, and still manage to kill the opposing pets.
  • Battling someone with the same pet and the same level and your attacks all miss and theirs all hit...
  • You land next to a pet to battle it, pull agro on some other NPC in the near vicinity, you fight it and then accidentally kill the battle pet you wanted to battle with an aoe attack you did on the NPC.
So what frustrating things have you experienced?

Monday raiding - Finally, goodbye to Vizier

It wasn't a good start to the night.  Slurs had a lousy day at work and was in no mood to raid.  Priestietute, being the dutiful girlfriend that she is, spent the evening with him.  So that left us with 2 people short.

The other group was already saved to MSV so it looks like completing that was out of the question.  A bit of a shame really!  So much yummy gear to be had...  so we decided to go to Heart of Fear and bash our heads on Vizier for a bit.  We got Aza and Souglyy in to replace Priestietute and Slurs and off we went.

Tank: Tout
Healers: Navimie, Gutsy
DPS: Moopie, Lushnek, Sevros, Balinar, Sabrehawk, Souglyy, Azadelta

We got some good attempts, but it was always those damned mind controls which were annoying as hell!  But finally, on the 8th attempt (or so it felt like) we managed to pull it together and we got it down.  It was a huge relief!  I was thrilled to bits, and Souglyy got a neck and there was some shaman stuff which we DE'd.

One of the things I found hardest during the night was to get my feasts to cross like this picture.  I wasn't able to reproduce that feat.  Sev told me it was all about the angle.

Some of the mind controls were hilarious.  Balinar always gets his seals changed and all his CD used when he gets mind controlled.  Aza was laughing one time because one mind control he put down a portal.  However, the computer must have heard him laughing because the next MC he summoned his pet, soul linked it and sacrificed it (I could be wrong).  One particularly bad MC, Moopie and Aza turned on me and beat me to death in just under 2 seconds.  I couldn't even hit deterrence (I had symbiosed Sabrehawk to try and get some survivability happening during MCs).  I remember reading out the Moopie hits Navimie for 50k, 50k, 50k, Azadelta casts chaos bolt on Navimie for 208k... bastards.

We played with the second boss a little bit but we weren't really serious.  Tomorrow, is the start of the one raid team over December initiative.  Which means we will always be raiding but we'll have a lot benched.  I guess that means that those who want to take a bit of a break can do so now.  I wonder who will be left to raid.

Gifts that move you

It's one of those funny things. Today it was not only LBR day and I could actually attend for a while, but it was a horde one too, and it was Firelands.  I like Firelands, so I went along and JD was being a bit strange.  He told me to go make a toon on his server - but I already had one because I used it for the Navispam of him.

JD gave us all a present.  I had that dreadful sinking feeling.  Is he leaving the game??  I had that dreaded feeling that it was one of those "Farewell folks, it's been great playing with you, here's something to remember me by," gifts.

He told us not to open it yet.  He wanted us to open it at the same time.  And then he said "OK... now!"  and there were gasps all around as we all had gorgeous panther mounts.  I was... astonished.  Humbled.  Thrilled.  Grateful.  And then I realised...

I would have to level a toon on this realm.  Then came the feeling of dread.  But I won't let that get in the way of my beautiful gift!

So here is everyone with all their gifts :)  And a teeny tiny picture beneath it with our names so I can remember who everyone is.

Here we are! Helke, Ancient, Mrs JD, Magik, Tylendres and a whole heap of guildies of JD's
After that we all went to Firelands.  Beth'tilac went down nice and easy but I had to pike after that and head out.  They all got up to Rag, so that was fun for those who hadn't seen Firelands.  Arvash turned up to do some leet tanking, thanks to some convincing from Repgrind.

Thanks JD.  You're awesome.

IntPiPoMo 2012 #36 to #38 - Starting a Panda

November is the month of NaNoWriMo. If a picture is worth a thousand words, and the NaNoWriMo target is fifty thousand words, then Angelya of Revive and Rejuvenate has said, surely we can post fifty pictures and be winners as well - IntPiPoMo!  This is part of my contribution to the series.

The back of the great turtle Shen-Zin Su is covered in the same beautiful statues, waterfalls and temples that we see on Pandaria.

The difference is we can see him.  I took so many shots as we flew to his head to talk to him because a huge sea turtle that we're riding is truly an amazing sight.

IntPiPoMo 2012 #33 - #35 - Our solution

November is the month of NaNoWriMo. If a picture is worth a thousand words, and the NaNoWriMo target is fifty thousand words, then Angelya of Revive and Rejuvenate has said, surely we can post fifty pictures and be winners as well - IntPiPoMo!  This is part of my contribution to the series.

Ji Firepaw's solution to the thorn in Shen-Zin Su's side is to blow it out of him. Aysa Cloudsinger states that this is the wrong thing to do, and is appalled when great damage is done to Shen-Zin Su - leading to the first split of Pandaren thinking into two sides, which culminate in a choice between Horde and Alliance.

However when a torrent of blood flows, Ji tells us to gather up all healers, no matter what faction to heal the wound.  And they succeed.  I took this picture because this is what I love to see - Horde and Alliance healers working side by side for a common goal.

IntPiPoMo 2012 #31 and #32 - What have we done

November is the month of NaNoWriMo. If a picture is worth a thousand words, and the NaNoWriMo target is fifty thousand words, then Angelya of Revive and Rejuvenate has said, surely we can post fifty pictures and be winners as well - IntPiPoMo!  This is part of my contribution to the series.

Who isn't saddened by watching the cut scene of horde and alliance fighting and destroying that beautiful jade dragon that we helped build?

And here we are, the thorn in the side of the great sea turtle, Shen-zin Su, causing him great pain and making him not be able to swim straight.

WoW's 8 year anniversary video

Lushnek showed me this video by Blizz for the 8th Anniversary, and I put it here so I can find it easier. I love WoW videos!

IntPiPoMo #30 - Zen Garden

November is the month of NaNoWriMo. If a picture is worth a thousand words, and the NaNoWriMo target is fifty thousand words, then Angelya of Revive and Rejuvenate has said, surely we can post fifty pictures and be winners as well - IntPiPoMo!  This is part of my contribution to the series.

This patch in Kun-Lai is actually full off baddies, but it has a very Zen-garden feel to it.... if it was less brown and more green and grey.

Wednesday raiding - A trying night

I was in a foul mood.  I was trying to put the kids to bed and my phone was ringing.  I thought it would stop.  It did, but it started again, different ringtone.  Then it rang again.  It was downstairs and the kids could hear it because they sat up and said my phone was ringing.  I told them to sleep but they wanted to get out of bed to get my phone, so I went down and picked up my phone and answered it rather abruptly.  It was Aza and they were looking for Falln because he hadn't turned up for raid.  I took my phone back upstairs, and the kids were all standing at the staircase looking at me.  I chased them back into the bedroom and no sooner had I lay down, the phone rang again.  It was Lushnek, looking for Falln.  I was really abrupt on the phone and Lushnek apologised and I went back to the kids.  5 minutes later the phone rang again - my sister had locked herself out of the house.  I had to get up again and let her back in.  I was infuriated!  It was 915pm and the kids were still awake because of the interruptions and I could not get them to sleep.  My daughter fell asleep fortunately soon after, but my son was still awake at raid time and I had to take him downstairs with me before he woke his sister with his wailing.

So I growled at my guildies for their inconsiderate interruptions and went to raid with a thundercloud over my head.  My son did not help, because we were doing Vizier in HoF and I was trying to avoid the attenuation sound bubbles (I mouse run and keyboard strafe for it) and he kept bumping my hand I ran into bubbles and died.  I looked like an absolute idiot noob player.  And this was after I had just given Gutsy a long lecture about playing like an idiot.  It happened a few more times and I was so angry after the 3rd or 4th death I had to attenuation that I ripped my headset off and stomped upstairs with my son in my arms to try to put him back to bed.  I was unsuccessful but at 1030 he was yawning and I said I needed a break and I took him upstairs and within 2 minutes he was asleep.  Hallelujah!  I rushed back downstairs and started being able to play properly, I was getting a bit cheered up.

However, Vizier was still not going well.  We could get to phase 2 easily and make it through the first 2 attenuations and a shield, but the MCs would utterly destroy us.  We got close, but no banana, and we decided to give it up at a bit past 11pm and head to Mogu'shan Vaults to get a little bit more gear.

The Dog combination was the bad one - chains, ices and purple pools and we were 2 healing it for a while.  But my frustration was building again because the tanks were CONSTANTLY having bad explosions.  You think that one or two would be tolerable, but 3 or 4 each time was making me infuriated.  I don't have enough cooldowns to get through that many!  So we asked Priestietute to heal again and we managed to get it down on our last attempt.  Gutsy got a cloak and Sabre got a chest and I ducked off after that to do dailies and things.

Hopefully tonight it will go well, we'll pick up some gear and we can go back into HoF and tackle Vizier again.  We were 2 healing it and it seemed to go a bit better, I think.  Fingers crossed.

IntPiPoMo #25 to #29 - The Horde perspective

November is the month of NaNoWriMo. If a picture is worth a thousand words, and the NaNoWriMo target is fifty thousand words, then Angelya of Revive and Rejuvenate has said, surely we can post fifty pictures and be winners as well - IntPiPoMo!  This is part of my contribution to the series.

Here are a few pictures I took from the Horde perspective of entering Pandaria.  It took me ages to figure out that it was this balloon I had to go.

And here we are crashing our Zeppelin after a skirmish with the Alliance and

A wide angle view of the crash site in Lade Forest.

And here we are attacking those scummy alliance!

Jade forest is so pretty and green.

The community response to Trolls and Asshats

I have been really impressed with the amount of people that have had positive responses to handling bullies, asshats and trolls in the WoW community.  Genowen's incident has created a plethora of great reading and some really influential people have voiced their opinions as well.  I hope that Blizzard listens and takes some positive steps for us to be able to counteract bad behaviour within our game, because ever since we opened up the game outside of our own servers, we have seen a huge increase in the amount of bad behaviour.  When people acted like idiots on a server, they were shunned and never got into big guilds to raid, or even dungeon.  They had to leave the server to start afresh.  Now, they can do a random where nobody knows them and continue to act in a shameful manner.

Many people have commented about how reporting a player has become nearly useless, with nothing done, at least not visibly, when complaints are made.  Perhaps Blizzard is so snowed under with complaints that they don't have the time or manpower to deal with these complaints, and so it appears to us that the "Authorities" are not dealing with the bad behaviour that we are seeing more and more often.  A consequence of that is that more people feel that they can now get away with the bad behaviour, and other MMOs have come up with some interesting solutions to these problems.

I wrote recently that we should all stand up against bullying and trolling.  But what can Blizz do for us to make it a better game for us all?
  • Stubborn wrote a series of posts about Community.  His post, "Spare the Rod, Spoil the gamer" illustrated with a series of diagrams the relationship between bully, victim and authority and he talked about a tribunal system like the one in League of Legends.  An interesting idea, and I think has a lot of merit, but it also could be used as a bullying tool if the bully had enough friends.
  • Girls gone WoW featured Gen and Sal on their show and had a huge discussion about asshat behaviour and how as a community we should be standing up against this behaviour.
  • Group Quest also talked about Asshats and what we can do as a community.
  • Genowen wrote a post "Honour the Game", which is basically a beginner's guide to being polite within an MMO.   She also noticed the big guns at WoWInsider are also engaging in the topic.
    • Matthew Rossi's "What Does Community Mean in World of Warcraft?" says that the community is not dead, but it's just moved into guilds, and into realID/battletag parties and raids.  Which I think is an accurate analogy.  However, that means, you have to have friends to have a community, and for the shy person or the first timer, that can be hard, and daunting.
    • Allison Robert's article "Sphere of Jerkitude: That's it, I'm outta here" talked about someone who dropped from a party because of an inappropriate comment.  However, did dropping the party hurt the person or encourage them to act differently?  I'm not too sure it did.  I understand that people don't want to be near or around anyone who is offensive, but there has to be a more positive way to deal with that.  Reporting, as I mentioned is ineffective, but I think that it should still be done, as part of the "pathway" for dealing with bad behaviour.
    • Anne Stickney wondered "Should players be in charge of accountability" and discussed some of Stubborn's ideas about the Tribunal system.  A lot of commenters said that a 94% punish rate was harsh - but is it harsh if those 94% WERE offenders?  It's hard to know the truth behind it all, but I think that the community should be allowed to dictate some of the punishments.  However, I know people can be harsh when they think they are right, and I would hope that tolerance, understanding and forgiveness would be part of the equation, and not just punishment, as people can be genuinely sorry for what had occurred.
  • Gen also said Twizz from Twizzcast spoke about it on Episode 29 as well, and was all fired up against Asshats!
  • Balkoth of Balkoth's Word brings something a little different to the discussion - the hard core raider, who is not necessarily an asshat, but enter an LFR or an LFD with a different attitude and that attitude can conflict with others within the group.  It makes the hard core raider act like an asshat because they are superior in DPS/healing/knowledge/gear compared to all the "noobs" who are trying to learn an encounter.  Tolerance, and patience are key things here because not every "leet" raider is like that.
  • Doone wrote about Defining Gaming Communities and he made an interesting comment
"I think this is a good reason the WoW community is appallingly fractured these days. In the olden days of the game, the audience was very specific, very niche and the game celebrated that. It’s a victim of it’s own success; becoming so wildly popular pressured the devs to accommodate all their new fans... Today we have possibly the most multicultural audience in that game, where literally all kinds of people play. Common ground is rare... Players *do* have very disparate goals..."
The difference, the disparity between the skill mixes is what leads to conflict.  When people's goals are so different, there is bound to be friction.  Which is where I said, that patience and tolerance is part of the whole getting along.  It's very similar to what Balkoth was saying.
So what can Blizzard do?  People have talked about better reporting and action on tickets, of adopting the tribunal or a town crier name and shame system.  Perhaps allowing people to choose what kind of skill level they want to play with in a random may be a solution.  Beginner and Expert?  That would work in battlegrounds too.  However, you can see problems with that in that a whole heap of Experts queueing in a battleground to decimate the beginners.  However, for those in LFR, perhaps having the more skilled people playing together may result in less friction and the beginners all playing together HOPEFULLY learning the fight there so that the more experienced aren't screaming that they're carrying people or these people are wasting their time.

It would be nice if you could "select" the raid labelled "polite raid".  Then everyone would be of the same mindset and griefers and bullies could be more easily kicked or reported.

I have to agree with Matthew Rossi, community still exists.  There is the blogging/podcast community, the twitter community, and of course battletags.  It's just not a community of strangers anymore.  And if you meet nice people, you can always battletag them so that your own little community gets bigger, and you will have more nice people to play with.  I know I said before that you should stand up to bullies, but I think that you have to reinforce the good behaviour as well.  But I guess the people you would invite are already nice people, so rewarding them may not change the general communities attitude and manners.

Perhaps as the game evolves, we may find a new community, or a better way to preserve the one that we used to have.  I am not sure we will ever have the one we used to have again, but I sure as well will try my best to get it back.

Monday raiding - Anything you can do...

We managed to at least get Mogu'shan Vaults done this week, and have a go or two at Vizier in Heart of Fear but Gutsy's connection was crap and we ended up 9 manning a lot.  Which was a bummer.  I swear, Gutsy's connection and his playstyle is only crap when he plays with us... he seems fine when he plays with the Empire on his druid.

However, we did manage to get the achievement Anything you can Do, I can do better... from Feng which was pretty cool - Thanks Tout!

Tout was pretty cranky during that fight because he kept missing the stuns and he was frustrated and angry with himself but lashed out a bit at us when we tried to help him.  He was contrite afterwards.

Priestie was on her mage Frostie and it was nice letting Sabre have a bit of a rest from bloodlust.  In fact, I totally forgot that she was there on her mage sometimes!

I managed to pick up some offspec loot AGAIN.  I got a staff which was a huge upgrade from what I was using before (Screaming Tiger, Qiang's unbreakable Polearm)

Today is Wednesday, my favourite day of the week.  Looking forward to seeing if my hat will drop.

IntPiPoMo #24 - Goblin corner

November is the month of NaNoWriMo. If a picture is worth a thousand words, and the NaNoWriMo target is fifty thousand words, then Angelya of Revive and Rejuvenate has said, surely we can post fifty pictures and be winners as well - IntPiPoMo!  This is part of my contribution to the series.

Goblin towns are always just that little bit tacky with lots of bright lights.  And to me, they also seem a little bit dirty... they're always polluting the water with some.  The calendars are hilariously tacky, as well as their decor.

IntPiPoMo 2012 #21 to #23 - The Vale

November is the month of NaNoWriMo. If a picture is worth a thousand words, and the NaNoWriMo target is fifty thousand words, then Angelya of Revive and Rejuvenate has said, surely we can post fifty pictures and be winners as well - IntPiPoMo!  This is part of my contribution to the series.

The Vale of Eternal Blossoms is my hearth and home of those blasted Golden Lotus Dailies.  But I think the Vale is very golden!  Look at all the gorgeous autumnal trees, and golden palaces, majestic and rising high above usSometimes when I'm cranky with my dailies, I take a break and look at the amazing scenery around me.

Minipost - Unexpected Sunday raiding

My plane was delayed coming back from my holiday so I didn't think I could make raid on Sunday.  However, my group was optimistic about going, so when I got on, we were going to Heart of Fear.  We had a few people with connection issues so we roped Roshii, Souglyy, Azadelta and Bladewind to come and see the first boss of Heart of Fear.

Balinar (Xarek) was asleep so I rang him and said "Hi Xar, it's Navi."
He replied "What? You've got the wrong number."
Oh crap, who have I rung at 3am in the morning??
"*Brian is that you?"
"Yes."
"*Brian Greaves?"
"Yes."
"Xar, it's Navi, get online to raid NOW.  Wake up!"
"Ok OK."
I hung up.  I felt really silly, and mean, for waking him up.

Balinar was going to heal but the DPS was so good that phases were short and we gave it a few goes 2 healing it.  We did get pretty close!

Gosh a whole week of valor and reputation missing.  A lot to catch up on.

Blog Azeroth Thanksgiving 2012

Pilgrim's bounty was a time of sharing and eating, and Navimie remembered the event well from her childhood.  When she was young, she watched her mother making the traditional tauren dish of candied sweet potatoes, and as a youngling she loved adding the honey to the pot.  It had been many years now since her parents had moved to the spirit realm to walk with the Earthmother, but she remembered her youthful days with fondness.

Giving thanks during the bounty was a relatively new concept for Navimie, but she had started her own tradition.  It was a human tradition, but Navimie had adopted it because she liked the idea of being thankful at a time of sharing with others.  Each year, she wrote her thanks for each person on a sheaf of parchment and she burned those in the cooking fire as she made her candied sweet potatoes, the idea being that infusing the food with her thanks would share the goodwill as she shared her food with her friends and fellow Horde mates.  This year her list was extensive and she hoped that the food wouldn't burn as she performed her ritual.

She set the pot to simmer after adding the honey, and she knelt before the cooking fire, taking each sheaf from her thick pile and adding it to the fire.

"I thank Tome of the Ancient for her unwavering friendship and support."
"Thanks to Jasyla for teaching me many things about druid healing, and from whom I still learn."
"To Cymre, whose wisdom in Pet battling has improved my own, I thank you."
"Mataoka, for your shoulder, ear and advice in times of need, I thank you."
"Big Bear Butt and Effraeti, I thank you for your courage and for speaking for me in my time of need."
"Thank you, Arvash, for reminding me of the true meaning of generosity."
"Dragonray, thank you for knowing exactly what I want."
"Thunderspank, I thank you for reminding me of my manners."
"Stubborn, Ironyca, Genowen, Typhoon Andrew and Sal, crusaders against oppression of the weak, I salute you."
"Thanks to JD for knowing exactly what to say to make me smile or burst into fits of laughter."
"Moogyver and Hasteur, thank you for opening my ears to a new world."
"Thanks to Ambermist, for being forever an inspiration to others."
"Kamalia and Akabeko, my tauren sisters, I thank you for wisdom, wardrobe advice and hilarious pictures."
"To my guild clan members, I thank you all for your friendship and for being my family.  For each of you I have special thanks, in a few words:
Lushnek - for your persevering friendship
Sevros - for your non-defeatist attitude
Roshii - for your dragon killing dedication
Souglyy - for your willingness to listen
Fueghan - for your strong leadership
Azadelta - for your boundless enthusiasm
Moopie - for your shoulder
Mctacky - for the indomitable excitement
Shabadu - for your challenger spirit
Faithless - for your gentle attitude
Ayelena - for being a gentleman
Fallnapart - for your inner peace
Bladewind - for listening while working
Tout - for your goofy antics
Voe - for your dedication to the healing arts
Hyad - for your partnership
Mabaho - for a long time friendship
Without you all, I would be be poorer in spirit, in humour and in company."

Navimie watched the last sheaf burn, thinking that if she had many more people to thank, her dish might start getting burned!  She stood to stir her candied potatoes, testing the flavour.  Perfect.  She took the pot to the serving dish, ready to share her meal at the Pilgrim's tables outside Orgrimmar.  She wondered who she would be sitting beside this year at the festival, and hoped that the Pumpkin Pie was as good this year as it was last year.

Roshii and Souglyy having fun with Kang's Bindstone

Kang's Bindstone drops from Kang the Soul Thief, one of the rare Pandarian champions.  Pandaria is full of vanity items which are fun to play with, and take up a hell of a lot of bank space too!

Roshii took some pics when they were in Sunwell of the bosses being "stoned" when killed.  It's a pretty funky animation!

A birthday present for Souglyy

B It was Souglyy's birthday on Friday and she got a really awesome present during her weekly run of Sunwell...

Boy was she thrilled!  I swear she has amazing luck :)  Though she has been doing it every week for a long time now...

Congrats Souglyy!
